From the people helping me to get the tickets to helping us on the train, everyone was great. My 3 year old grandson loved the music and danced on the train. Very fun!
– Carol S., TripAdvisorWe had an absolutely great time on the fall robbery ride. Everyone was having a good time and especially good for the kids! Will do it again and will probably go be one of the robbers!
– Barry H., TripAdvisorFirst train ride for most on my party. We had Muncies for a picnic on the train. It was difficult to hear about the history but we were able to make out important details. The village was quite a bit of history. Everyone was friendly and informative. The kids had a great time and that was most important. Friendly staff!!!!
– Michelle M., TripAdvisorThis ride happens only three times per year, it's a nice scenic ride, but...the train is stopped by robbers on horseback! They board the train and take your (fake green monopoly) money. At first, I thought it would scare kids...but on the contrary. It was awesome, and they loved it. They were pleasant robbers that let kids pet their horses. :-)
– Cheryl B., TripAdvisorSince 1972, the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway has been entirely managed, operated, and maintained by volunteer members. If you have an interest in historic preservation and interpretation, we have a place for you! Our friendly volunteers have helped make memories for thousands of families over the last 40+years — you can be one of us! And if you’re not local to Nelsonville, that’s okay — you wouldn’t be alone! We have many volunteers from up to a two-hour drive away that help out consistently. Please consider joining today!
The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway has been all volunteer-operated for over forty years. You can be a part of history! There’s always a need for car hosts, brakemen, conductors, depot staff, shop personnel, track maintainers and more! No prior railroad experience is required. With your willingness to learn, we can train you right from your experience and skill level.
Even though we are entirely self-funded through ticket sales, there’s only so far we can go with volunteer labor and tickets. To accelerate our restoration and maintenance projects to help preserve railroad history and make for an even greater experience to our visitors, monetary (and even tool and equipment) donations are always welcome! We are a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, so all donations are tax-deductible! Please consider donating today, and we thank you in advance!
