Parking is free! We have three lots to choose from around the Nelsonville Depot, the point of departure for all trains unless otherwise noted.
The first parking lot is right alongside West Canal Street–shared with Rocky Outdoor Gear–and is accessed by turning onto Hocking Parkway and taking an immediate left. It is paved with asphalt.
The second lot is right before the grade crossing and also accessed from Hocking Parkway. After passing the asphalt lot, this lot is also on the left. It is paved with gravel and puts you closest to the depot.
The third lot is across the railroad track and behind the depot. It is accessed from Hocking Parkway and is the third parking lot on the left (first lot after crossing railroad grade crossing). It is the largest of the three but is lower than the other two. It is not handicap accessible unlike the first two lots. It is paved with concrete.
We are handicap accessible through most of the depot grounds. We have a lift to be able to assist anyone requiring assistance onto the train. When purchasing or picking up your tickets at the depot, be sure to inform the ticket agent if the lift will be needed. If you or a member of your party will require use of the lift, please arrive no less than 30 minutes prior to departure (45 minutes is ideal).
TICKETS AND PURCHASING
You can purchase tickets right here on our website, through our Facebook page, at the Nelsonville depot, or by calling 855-32DEPOT. Advanced ticket sales are only available online or the toll-free number (a convenience fee of up to $4.40 per ticket does apply for online and phone advanced ticket purchases). Tickets can not be purchased for a later train at the depot. Tickets are on sale at the depot two hours prior to the train’s scheduled departure time. A convenience fee does not apply to ticket purchases made at the depot. Payment methods accepted at the depot include cash, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
After you’ve purchased your tickets, when checking your bank records, if you see any references to “FareHarbor”, don’t worry! That is us! FareHarbor is who we use to handle our online ticket sales.
PICKING UP TICKETS
PLAN AHEAD! Please try to arrive at the depot no less than a half hour prior to the scheduled departure time (and no less than 45 minutes prior to scheduled departure time for Easter Bunny Train, Robbery Train, Fall Foliage, Santa Train, and New Year’s Eve Train).
FOOD AND DRINK
You are more than welcome to bring onboard your own food and drinks, provided the drinks do not have alcohol in them. We do not serve food onboard the train unless otherwise noted. We do have a Pepsi vending machine inside the depot, as well as bottled water available in the gift shop across from the depot.
There are several fast food restaurants in Nelsonville, as well as cafe’s and diners. Rocky’s Boot Grille is conveniently located within walking distance of the depot and is frequented by our train crews.
We also have a couple of picnic tables available on a first-come, first-served basis around the depot, which make for a nice lunch setting next to the train!
There are no restrooms available on the train. Restrooms are available inside the depot and at Robbins Crossing.
Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis regardless of reservation. As soon as you have picked up your tickets at the depot (or if you already printed your tickets ahead of time at home/have them on your smartphone), if the train is ready for passengers to board, you may pick any seat not already claimed. If needed, a friendly train crew volunteer will be happy to help you.
MISSED THE TRAIN
If you missed the train, we can arrange to have your tickets set up for the next train (if another train is scheduled for that day and room is available). If not, we can have your tickets moved to a different day and time entirely (subject to availability and additional fees). If you’d like your tickets moved to a different day, just call our toll-free Call Center at 855-32DEPOT. and they’ll be happy to assist you.
HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING
During the winter, all coaches are heated, so don’t worry about getting chilly! Each coach has electric heat, except for our B&O-heritage combination car, which is heated with a vintage coal stove.
During the summer, our bi-level cars (if on the train; generally used only on special event trains) and our B&O day-coach has air conditioning. All other coaches have windows that open and cooled by the breeze through the train.
Also during the summer, we have two open cars available. These converted freight cars have a roof overhead to keep the rain drops away should a rain shower be encountered during the trip.
Smoking is not allowed on any car of the train at any time. No exceptions.
No pets of any kind are permitted on the train with the exception of certified service animals.
We do not have any on-site storage lockers available at the depot at this time.
